Summary
This is routine work in performing non-technical and/or minor technical laboratory duties in a biological laboratory.
Work includes responsibility for the performance of routine repetitive laboratory tasks, preparation of laboratory supplies and equipment for tests to be performed, and the custodial care of laboratory equipment, and supplies. Work is to support the necessity for development of considerable familiarity with the procedures, equipment, and supplies of laboratory area. Duties are performed under close supervision of a technical superior.

Duties and Responsabilities

• Picks up dirty laboratory glassware and equipment from assigned laboratory; cleans and sterilizes laboratory glassware and equipment such as slides, pipettes, culture dishes, and test tubes; labels bottles; operates and cleans autoclave and sterilizes a wide variety of equipment.

• Preparation of microbial media and performance of the microbial assays according to specified procedures.

• Prepares the more routine chemical solutions such as formalin, saline, alcohol, and others for use in assigned laboratories.

• Receives and delivers supplies to and from Research and development laboratory.

• Cleans, sterilizes, and makes up into sets a wide variety of carts and trays for routine and special laboratory.

• Assists, as needed, in the more routine and limited laboratory experiments under close supervision of technical superiors.

• Performs related work as required.

Education and Experience
Completion of the high school degree; or any equivalent combination of training and experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to clean, wrap, sterilize, and store laboratory glassware and fragile apparatus.

• Ability to learn the use of autoclaves, sterilizers, and other simple laboratory equipment.

• Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions.
